Conceiving the gender of your choice is scientifically possible. If you ask about its effectiveness, well it is almost 100% effective. One would be the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis. This process was introduced back in 1989. The initial purpose of this is to help individuals who have genetic disorders reduce their risk of having a child to suffer from the same condition. It is also being used to women who are having a hard time getting pregnant or to those who have a history of recurrent miscarriage.
This process is done by creating embryos outside of the womb to be tested for genetic disorders and gender. This technique is called the in vitro fertilization. The fertilization is done in a petri dish and results to 3-5 day old embryos. These embryos are later on tested for genetic abnormalities and gender. After filtering out the embryos, doctors will then transfer only the healthy ones to your uterus. Through this process, you’re less likely to have a miscarriage or have a child with genetic disorders. Most especially, if you do get pregnant, it is almost 100% that you’ll have a baby of your preferred gender.
This type of procedure is invasive and obviously, way too expensive. And the process won’t end there. You also have to take fertility drugs and this may cause uncomfortable side effects such as blurred vision, bloating and weight gain. Not to mention, the process of removing eggs from your ovaries can be painful. However, other embryos that aren’t implanted can be frozen be used for future conceiving or another attempt to conceive. You can also donate them for other couples who are having hard time getting pregnant.
Only a few fertility clinics allow this procedure to be used solely for gender selection. There are certain requirements and qualifications that you must possess before you undergo PGD.
